IPL Treatment Aftercare

  1. Immediately after the IPL treatments, there should be redness at the treatment area, which may last up to 2 hours or longer. It is normal for the treated area to feel like sunburn for a few hours. Apply an ice pack or chilled Aloe Vera gel every hour for 15 minutes every hour to sooth the treated area until symptoms subside. Darker pigmented people may have more discomfort than lighter skin people and may require the Aloe Vera gel or an antibiotic ointment longer.
  2. Makeup may be used after the IPL removal treatment, unless there is epidermal blistering. It is recommended to use new makeup to reduce the possibility of infection and wash your face before applying any make up. Just make sure that you have moisturizer on under your makeup. In fact, moisturize frequently and freely on the treated area. Any moisturizer without alpha hydroxy acids will work.
  3. Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of dark or light spots for 2 days. Use sunscreen SPF 30 or higher at all times throughout the treatment.
  4. Avoid using skin irritants (Retin-A, Benzyl Peroxide, glycolic acid, chemical peels for two weeks post treatment and for two weeks prior to subsequent treatments).
  5. Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin.
  6. You may shower(warm water only) after the IPL hair removal treatments, and use soap, shower gel etc.DO NOT use hot water or "soak" in the tub. Avoid Saunas, Jacuzzis or strenuous exercise for 48 hours. The treated area may be washed gently with a mild soap. Skin should be patted dry and NOT rubbed.

Skin Peel Treatment AfterCare

Do’s:

  1. Treat your skin gently. Instead of using a washcloth on your facial, switch to a gentler option like a baby washcloth. The rough texture of a wash cloth can be too aggravating for skin that is already irritated.
  2. Wear SPF. You’re exposing vulnerable immature cells so you must make sure they don’t get damaged from UV rays. Apply sunscreen daily on the face and neck.
  3. Limit your time outdoors to reduce sun exposure.
  4. Use soothing products with Aloe Vera to comfort the skin and reduce redness.
  5. Use antioxidants. Since the skin has been traumatized, free radical production is high.
  6. Suppress the free radical activity with an antioxidant moisturizer.

Don’ts:

  1. Pick at the skin! The whole purpose of a chemical peel is to “burn” off the surface dry, damaged cell layers and reveal younger-looking, healthy new cells. But to do this, the skin has to shed and that’s part that people dislike the most. But picking off dry, flaky skin when it may not be ready to come off can result in scarring and unnecessary redness.
  2. Over-moisturize to compensate for post-peeling dryness. When the skin is peeling and flaky, it’s normal to want to apply heavier moisturizer to alleviate dryness and comfort the irritated skin. The whole purpose of a chemical peel is to peel. So to hydrate peeling skin when it wants to shed off, will not give you the best benefit and prolongs the down-time of the peel. Just use your regular moisturizer and let the skin do what it wants to do.
  3. Exfoliate. It is so important to not remove the dry skin before its time and to let the skin shed naturally. Facial scrubs and acids will only irritate the irritation further and could result in scarring the skin.
  4. Bottom line: Hands off, protect your skin with SPF, use calming ingredients and let it run its course.
